The biochemical mode of action is the inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis as sequence specific ds-DNA interacting agent. Daunomycin binds to every 3 base pairs and induces a local unwinding angel of 8°C. K562 (Erythroleukemia cells): IC50 = 15 nM (human); NHDF: IC50 = 190 nM (human). pKa: 7.39, pKb: 8.68.
