Sodium formate (HCOONa, CAS No 141-53-7) is a white deliquescent powder with a molecular weight of 68.01 g/mol. Sodium formate melts at 245°C and is soluble in water (972 g/L at 20 °C) and slightly soluble in alcohol. Sodium formate is an environmentally safer alternative to chloride, sulfate, nitrate, and phosphate brines.
