Monobenzone
Monobenzone is a topical depigmenting agent used to treat hyperpigmentation, such as various discolorations, age spots, and melanoma, with significant effects. It can break down melanin in the skin, stop the production of melanin and restore the skin to a healthy color without destroying melanocytes. It is very mildly toxic and is usually made into an ointment or a rub.
Monobenzone is a milky white crystalline powder; slightly soluble in water, very soluble in ethanol and benzene; soluble in acetone and alkali, insoluble in petroleum ether and hydrocarbon.
