Etelcalcetide is used for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis. Etelcalcetide is a calcimimetic agent that allosterically modulates the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR). Etelcalcetide binds to the CaSR and enhances activation of the receptor by extracellular calcium. Activation of the CaSR on parathyroid chief cells decreases PTH secretion.

Etelcalcetide, also known as AMG 416 and KAI-4169, is a D-amino peptide calcimimetic undergoing clinical evaluation for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis. Etelcalcetide is administered intravenously at the end of each dialysis session. It functions by binding to and activating the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) in the […]

Exendin-4 (exenatide), a 39-amino acid peptide originally isolated from the salivary glands of the Gila monster (Heloderma suspectum), differs from exendin-3 only in two positions close to the N-terminus. Application of exenatide causes an increase in acinar cAMP without stimulating amylase release. As an incretin mimetic, exenatide acts as agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) […]

Exendin (9-39) is a competitive GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) receptor antagonist. Exendin (9-39) blocks the stimulatory action of GLP-1 amide, exendin-3 and exendin-4 on cAMP production in pancreatic acini. In addition, exendin (9-39) was showed not to interfer the insulin normal secretion.
