Pentyl acetate is a straight chain ester. It is an odorant and its odor threshold has been evaluated by sensory panel methods. High pressure phase behavior of type I has been reported for its binary mixtures with CO2. Solubility of these solvent mixtures was observed to increase with the rise in temperature at constant pressure.

Pentyl propionate is a linear ester. It is formed during the in vivo recombinant MpAAT1 volatile trapping experiments, using pentanol as substrate. It has been identified as one of the volatile compound emitted by the ′Gala′ apples after regular (RA) or controlled atmosphere (CA) storage by gas chromatography-olfactometry technique.

Perfluorohexyl iodide forms 1:1 complexes with a variety of hydrogen-bond acceptors. It has been grafted onto the isocitronellene/propene copolymer by radical reaction yielding a poly(α-olefin) with fluorinated side chains. The radical addition of perfluorohexyl iodide to vinyl acetate, using azo-bis( isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as an initiator, has been investigated.
