Colchicine is an alkaloid isolated from Colchicum autumnale with anti-gout and anti-inflammatory activities. Colchicine decreases leukocyte chemotaxis/migration and phagocytosis to inflamed areas, and inhibits the formation and release of a chemotactic glycoprotein that is produced during phagocytosis of urate crystals.
