Methyl 2-chlorobenzoate, a methyl 2-halobenzoate, is an ester. It can be synthesized from 2-chlorobenzoyl chloride. Its reduction with NaBH4 in diglyme at 162°C affords 2-chlorobenzyl alcohol.
